Raul and Lauren are married now and living in Louisiana, but their background and expertise goes way back to their ancestors and upbringing. They grew up among horses and cows in their parents old estates in Lima, Peru and Vancouver, Canada their native countries.

Lauren's Grandparents raised Registered Jersey cows in their weekend home way back in the 1940's. Her father, who was raised and remains there, turned it into his permanent residence and a Thoroughbred breeding operation, "Fairmeade Farm" in business since 1957. So Lauren, while attending school in Vancouver, became a "tom boy" on her weekends spending all her free time around horses and the herdsmen. Years later, having learned about the Peruvian breed, Lauren started her own small, but very successful breeding program under the name of "Woodwynde Farm Peruvians" using the WFP prefix on her horses. Lauren won numerous Championships in the nineties with her home breds.

Raul had the same kind of upbringing in Peru, the only difference being that his father had Holsteins. He too raised thoroughbreds as a hobby in the 1920s and 30's, long before Raul was born. Later, at the "Hacienda Ceres" where cotton and corn were grown, the horses were all of the native breed, the Peruvians Pasos being used in supervising labor, similarly to the plantation horses in the south here in the USA. Raul, as a kid, would take two bus rides to get to the Hacienda on weekends and groom and ride his favorite ones. He went on to College and later became an accomplished breeder and judge of both Peruvian Horses and Dairy Cattle. In the 1980's, facing social unrest, Raul and his former wife, an American citizen, moved to the USA with the horses. The RyR prefix that identifies Raul's horses has had worldwide recognition having been sold to such far away places as Latin America, Canada and Europe. Raul has also judged the National Show in every country where the breed is known, in South and Central America, Canada, Europe, the USA and twice at the Peruvian Nationals, the largest show in the world.

Life has brought them together, and while they share the same passion for the breed and appreciation of their entire herd, their individuality is the reason why the horses still carry either RyR or WFP prefixes, although they are the owners in both cases. Maybe this anecdote explains better to their commitment to breeding only the best horses in this unique breed.
